Taking the time to prepare your wall properly can help your wallpaper apply more smoothly, a
dhere better, and look its best once installed.

Please read through these tips before installing your wallpaper.

Before You Start

Wallpaper works best on walls that are:
✓ Clean
✓ Dry
✓ Smooth or lightly textured
✓ Properly primed when needed
✓ Free from dust, grease, peeling paint, moisture, and heavy texture

Wall texture, paint finish, humidity, temperature, and installation method can all affect the final result.
For best results, please follow the installation instructions included with your wallpaper order.

1. Start With a Clean Wall

  • Dust, dirt, grease, and residue can prevent wallpaper from making proper contact with the wall.
  • Before installation, wipe your wall with a clean damp cloth or sponge using plain water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaner.
  • Allow the wall to dry completely before installing wallpaper.

2. Make Sure the Wall Surface Is Ready

  • Wallpaper may be applied to smooth or lightly textured walls, but the surface still needs to be clean, dry, stable, and properly prepared.
  • Light texture may be suitable, but heavy orange peel, knockdown texture, rough surfaces, bumps, holes, cracks, or peeling paint can affect how the wallpaper adheres and how the final install looks.
  • Before installing, patch any holes, repair cracks, sand raised areas, and make sure the wall surface is stable.
  • For heavier texture, additional wall prep such as smoothing, sanding, or priming may be needed before wallpaper is applied.

3. Prime When Needed

  • Certain paint finishes and specialty coatings can make wallpaper adhesion more difficult. A suitable wallpaper primer can help create a more dependable installation surface.
  • Use a high-quality primer suitable for wallpaper or difficult surfaces and allow it to fully cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions before installing.
  • For freshly painted walls, follow the paint manufacturer’s full curing instructions before installing wallpaper.

4. Check the Room Conditions

  • Install wallpaper on a clean, completely dry wall in a room with a stable, moderate temperature.
  • Although the wallpaper materials are resistant to normal household moisture and humidity, do not install them on damp walls or in areas exposed to direct or prolonged water.

5. Install Slowly and Carefully

  • Take your time during installation.
  • For peel and stick wallpaper, peel back a small section of the backing at a time. Line up the top of the panel first, then slowly remove more backing as you smooth the wallpaper down the wall.
  • Use a smoothing tool as you go, working from the center outward to help remove air bubbles and improve contact with the wall.
  • Apply firm, even pressure across the full panel, especially along edges and seams.
  • For LUXE Traditional, apply the required wallpaper paste directly to the wall and follow the installation instructions provided with your order.

6. Follow Panel Order

  • Wallpaper panels are printed in sequence and should be installed in order from left to right.
  • Please do not skip, swap, or install panels out of order.
  • Installing panels out of sequence may cause the pattern to not line up properly.

Wallpaper results can vary depending on wall texture, paint type, wall preparation, humidity, temperature, and installation method.

Because of this, proper wall preparation is very important before installing wallpaper.

Peel & Stick Troubleshooting

Having Trouble With Peel & Stick Wallpaper?

If your peel and stick wallpaper is lifting, bubbling, or not sticking properly, check these first:

  • Is the wall clean?
  • Is the wall completely dry and free from ongoing moisture?
  • Is the wall smooth or only lightly textured?
  • Was the wall properly primed if needed?
  • Is the room at a stable, moderate temperature?
  • Was firm pressure used during installation?
  • Was the panel lifted and repositioned several times?

Peel and stick wallpaper is designed for clean, dry, properly prepared walls, including smooth or lightly textured surfaces.

Wall texture, paint finish, humidity, temperature, and installation method can all affect how well it adheres.

If You Notice Lifting

If an edge or section begins to lift, gently press it back into place using a smoothing tool.

Apply firm, even pressure over the lifting area, especially along seams, corners, and edges.
